Special Issue on:
Project Management and Scheduling

Project management and scheduling are major issues for every company and organization facing rapid change of the economic environment. This special issue of the Flexible Services and Manufacturing (FSM) Journal, formerly known as the International Journal of Flexible Manufacturing Systems is concerned with all aspects of project management and scheduling. We are seeking the best available new research in the area in order to provide a valuable resource for scholars and practitioners striving to leverage techniques and knowledge to improve project management and scheduling.

Topics of interest include, but are not limited, to the following:
• Multi-project management and scheduling
• Evaluation of projects
• Project control
• New models in project management and scheduling
• Exact and (meta-) heuristic algorithms for resource-constrained project scheduling
• Human behaviour and risk attitudes in project management and scheduling
• Risk and robust project scheduling
• Interfaces of project management and scheduling with other areas
• Project portfolio planning and decision analysis in project management
• Empirical studies on project management (e.g. on success factors)
• Project scheduling methods for complex scheduling problems in diverse industries such as
automotive, chemical, to name some.
• Project management software issues

Papers should employ a rigorous research methodology, including operations research and empirical research and should have relevance and practicable implications. Papers concerned with scheduling issues such as classical single and multi-machine scheduling which do not apply project scheduling models are not suited for this special issue.

Submission Guidelines:
Papers should be submitted in pdf format via e-mail to one of the special issue editors. The target print publication date is the end of 2011. Accepted papers appear on Springer’s webpage prior to print publication. The submitted papers must not have been previously published or be currently under consideration for publication elsewhere. All papers will be reviewed according to the standards of the FSM journal. We will adopt a rapid and fair review process in order to meet the target publication date.
